Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing at our Oklahoma City practice improves your skin tone, minimizes the appearance of scars, and softens wrinkles. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Oscar Masters uses advanced laser technology and selects the right type of laser for your skin based on your concerns and desired outcome.

The Right Laser for You

There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all laser that effectively treats the unique needs of all patients. That’s why we offer both ablative and non-ablative laser treatments at Masters Plastic Surgery. We customize your treatment based on the condition of your skin, your cosmetic goals, and your lifestyle. Some patients may want only one treatment session that involves recovery time. Others may opt for scheduling a series of treatments with little to no downtime necessary.

Ablative vs Non-Ablative Lasers

The aggressiveness of a laser skin treatment partially depends on whether the provider uses an ablative or non-ablative laser.

Ablative

This type of laser removes the thin outer layer of skin (epidermis) and heats the underlying skin (dermis), stimulating the growth of collagen—a protein that improves skin firmness and texture. The treated area appears smoother and tighter as the skin heals and produces new collagen. Our practice uses the Lutronic eCO2™ (carbon dioxide) ablative laser.

Non-Ablative

Gentler non-ablative lasers penetrate the skin’s outer layer without damaging it and stimulate new collagen production. Our Lutronic Ultra laser system is the latest generation in non-ablative laser skin resurfacing technology. No downtime is needed following treatments.

What Does the eCO2 Laser Treat?

The Lutronic eCO2® laser’s versatility is one of its primary benefits. We can adjust the various settings during a procedure to disperse the laser beam bursts across the treatment area. This reduces the heat absorbed by surrounding tissues, which reduces downtime after treatment. We also fine-tune the aggressiveness of the procedure to meet your specific needs.

A CO2 laser effectively treats:

  • Dark spots on the face, neck, hands, and other parts of the body
  • Acne scars
  • Scars from injury
  • Deep wrinkles
  • Rough skin texture

Most patients need only one treatment, which usually takes about an hour. You’ll notice improved skin texture and appearance within days of your treatment, and your skin will continue to improve for a couple of months as your results develop fully.

We can apply numbing cream before your treatment to minimize discomfort. Depending on the intensity of the procedure, you’ll need 5 to 7 days of downtime. It can take another week or 2 for the skin to finish healing.

What Does the Lutronic Ultra Laser Treat?

The Lutronic Ultra Laser refreshes and rebuilds new, healthy skin for all skin types. Like the CO2 laser, we can customize the Ultra settings based on your skin’s tone and the conditions we’re treating. It targets various skin discoloration concerns, including melasma and brown spots.

The Ultra Laser treats:

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Sun damage
  • Acne scarring
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Brown spots
  • Stretch marks
  • Freckles
  • Benign pigmented lesions

An Ultra laser procedure is considered a “lunchtime” treatment because it typically takes only about 30 minutes, and you can return to work or your other daily activities after your appointment. You might experience a flushed appearance overnight, but that aftereffect resolves on its own the next day. You’ll notice results after a single treatment, but most patients require a series of treatment sessions to get the desired results.
